Microneedling

As our skin ages, sagging, uneven texture and pigmentation can be troubling, leading people to seek assistance from their dermatologist. Microneedling is by far the most popular and effective treatment that ensures that our patients have healthy and vibrant looking skin.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that has been proven to stimulate collagen production, improve skin tone, minimize scars, improve the appearance of stretch marks and minimize enlarged pores. It is an efficient, safe method for taking care of many skin concerns and is quickly becoming one of our most popular procedures.

Microneedling speeds up the skin repair process by creating small channels which allow products to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin. This, in turn, stimulates collagen and elastin production which can reverse years of sun damage, improve acne scars and enhance the overall appearance of ageing skin.

Who is a candidate for microneedling?

One of the most exciting things about microneedling is that it can be used on all types of skin for a wide range of problems, including acne scars and any area requiring cell regeneration or an intense repair process. The treatment is extremely versatile and can be used on all parts of the body like the face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

How is the procedure done?

We first apply numbing cream for about an hour prior to the procedure to increase comfort. A thin layer of serum is then applied to the skin and we administer the appropriate treatment for a particular type of skin, area or condition. We then glide the pen across the repair area in a gentle motion. The actual procedure typically takes about 15-30 minutes, depending upon the size of the area being treated and the severity of skin damage.

What is the downtime?

Immediately following the treatment, you will notice a healthy pink glow, with areas of redness. Dr Cebi or the therapist will recommend products to help your skin’s natural healing process. The total healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin and the depth of the repair process required. On average, patients are pink for two to four days but some heal completely within 24 hours.

When will I see the results?

Most people notice healthier-looking skin immediately and the natural repair process of the skin continues to progress for several weeks. We recommend that patients receive at least 4 treatments over a couple of months, during which the dermal collagen remodelling will improve for up to six months after the final treatment.
