Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a technique of applying a chemical solution (usually a fruit acid) to the skin to encourage exfoliation, resulting in clearer, smoother looking skin.

Chemical peels diminish many signs of ageing by refreshing the skin texture, reducing fine lines and diminishing skin discolouration, giving the skin a smoother and glowing appearance. Mild scarring and certain types of acne can also be treated with chemical peels.

How is it done?

During this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove old cells and reveal new cells that form a smoother, less wrinkled and more even skin tone. Most patients experience a warm sensation for a few minutes that may be followed by some stinging which then subsides.

Do I need to take any special precautions before a chemical peel treatment?

  • Products containing retinoids, adapalene or alpha-hydroxy acid creams are not recommended to be used for at least three days pre- and post-treatment.
  • Sunscreen should be applied pre- and post-chemical peeling on a routine basis to guard against sunburn or excessive pigmentation.

  • Waxing should not be done for at least 2 days pre- and post-treatment.

  • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane, Acnetane, Oratane) is contraindicated with chemical peels and we advise that you wait four to six months before undertaking treatment.

How will my skin look after treatment?

Immediately after the procedure, your skin may have a reaction similar to a mild sunburn. You may experience some of the following reactions to the procedure over the next few days; redness, stinging, itching, tightness, fine rash and mild peeling of the top layer of your skin. Peeling or flaking of the skin generally lasts 1-7 days depending on the skin type and nature of the peel used. Use of a hydrating moisturizer and broad-spectrum sunscreen daily is mandatory.

How many treatments will I need?

How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required depend on the skin condition being treated. Usually, 4-8 treatments are recommended, 2-4 weeks apart. Typically, although the skin will look and feel refreshed, smoother and softer after one treatment, the most dramatic results show after the third treatment.

We offer a variety of chemical peels and Dr Cebi will determine which peel is appropriate for your specific skin type and concerns.
