Carboxyl Therapy

Carboxyl therapy is the use of carbon dioxide gas (CO2 gas) as a means to stimulate blood flow thus improving the appearance of skin. The treatment can be used on most parts of the body and has been proven to work especially well for wrinkles, cellulite and stretch marks.

Carboxyl therapy has become a popular treatment at our practice. It is effective, quick to administer and results can often be seen almost immediately. Carboxyl therapy a rejuvenation treatment which involves CO2 gas being injected under the skin to encourage collagen production and break down fat. The result is smoother, younger looking skin.

The oxygen cells in our bodies decrease as we get older and this causes cells regeneration to slow down, leaving us with less elasticity and collagen. Carboxyl therapy is a wonderful treatment to rejuvenate the skin in less than 30 minutes.

The most common use of carboxyl therapy at our practice is for cellulite reduction and hair loss but it can be used to treat many other issues such as stretch marks, acne scars, loose skin and more. It’s also popular for reducing dark circles around the eyes while simultaneously reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

What to expect

CO2 is injected into the skin using a very tiny needle. During the treatment, the sensation can be likened to a dull throb or pressure. This mild discomfort lasts 2 to 4 minutes. CO2 is very soluble and is easily and quickly diffused from the injection site to the surrounding tissue. After treatment, the gas is reabsorbed within 5 minutes. The treated area will be slightly raised and red as oxygen perfused into the area encourages an inflammatory response which, in turn, stimulates collagen production. There is usually no pain after the procedure but possibly a crackling sensation under the skin that lasts until the gas is excreted.
